BRICS Summit Anticipated to Bolster South Africa’s Tourism Sector, TBCSA Envisions Boost in Revenue.
Tshifhiwa Tshivhengwa, CEO of the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA), expressed optimism that the upcoming BRICS summit could significantly enhance the country’s tourism earnings. In an interview with Xinhua, Tshivhengwa highlighted the potential of the summit to attract a higher number of tourists.
“The summit is a major event. We have high expectations for its positive impact on our tourism sector. The bookings for conference venues, restaurants, and hotels are projected to generate substantial revenue,” Tshivhengwa remarked.
He emphasized the need to diversify tourism sources, extending focus to countries like China to bolster tourist inflow. Simplifying travel processes for Chinese tourists was also underlined as a priority in order to attract more visitors from that market. The 15th BRICS Summit is slated to occur in Johannesburg, South Africa, spanning from August 22 to 24.
Tshivhengwa noted that approximately 93,000 Chinese tourists visited South Africa in 2019. However, the pandemic disrupted tourism growth, despite South Africa’s earlier efforts to attract Chinese travelers.
