Google I/O 2025 Set for May 20-21: Android 16 and Gemini 2.0 AI Announcements Expected

Google has officially confirmed that Google I/O 2025 will be held on May 20 and 21 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. The annual developer conference will be available both in-person and online via live streams. Registration is now open for the event, which will feature hardware and software announcements, technical sessions, workshops, and networking opportunities.

What to Expect at Google I/O 2025

The two-day event is expected to showcase major updates, including Android 16 and advancements in Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini. A new Gemini 2.0 AI model is anticipated, building on last year’s Gemini 1.5 Pro model with a context window of two million tokens.

Android 16 is likely to introduce a new Live Updates feature, showing real-time status for ongoing activities such as food delivery or navigation, similar to Apple’s Live Activities. Additionally, the update will bring predictive back animations for the three-button navigation mode, previously available only with gesture-based navigation.

The event will likely kick off with a keynote from Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai at 10 am PT (11:30 pm IST), highlighting the latest products and software for 2025. The official microsite for Google I/O 2025 features a countdown clock and a registration link.

Other Anticipated Announcements

Google is also expected to announce updates for Google AI Studio, open-source Gemma models, and NotebookLM. More details will be revealed during the event.
