The days of 100-word sentences about “cross-functional data optimization protocols” are over. If grandma can’t understand your privacy policy, you’re doing it wrong.
You Own Your Data Now – And Can Delete It With One Click
Global Privacy Control started as just another browser setting, but when California made GPC legally binding in 2020, everything changed. Now one toggle tells every website to stop selling your data – and ignoring it means huge fines.
DoorDash got $375,000 just for making the opt-out button too hard to find, while Sephora saw a $1.2 million penalty for selling customer data despite GPC signals.
With regulators closing in, companies had to turn control into something users could actually see – and measure. Microsoft’s Entra shows which apps have touched their data and for what purpose. Platforms love that line – Meta’s own filings show moderation errors across its apps reaching up to 20%, while Facebook, Instagram, and Threads reported more than 1.7 million child exploitation cases in the first quarter of 2025 alone.
India issued over 74,000 data requests to U.S. tech firms during the same period, each one now tracked under Europe’s Digital Services Act. The DSA now requires platforms to show exactly what they take down, how often they make mistakes, and what happens when users appeal.
Those reports used to sound like marketing copy; now they read like evidence. X logged over nine million moderation actions, each tied to timestamps, reversals, and appeal data.
